Wijmo UI for the Web
Quick Start
Wijmo User Guide > Widgets > ComboBox > Quick Start

In this quick start, you'll learn how to add the ComboBox widget to an HTML project using HTML markup and jQuery script.

  1. To create a new HTML page in your favorite text editor, add the following code and save the document with an .html extension.

    Drop down and copy markup

    Paste in your favorite text editor.
    Copy Code
    <!DOCTYPE HTML>
    <HTML>
    <head>
    </head>
    <body>
    </body>
    </HTML>

  2. Add links to the dependencies to your HTML page within the <head> tags. Find the latest dependencies in the content delivery network (CDN) file at wijmo cdn.

    Drop down and copy references to paste inside the head tags

    References
    Copy Code
    <!--Theme-->
    <link href="http://cdn.wijmo.com/themes/aristo/jquery-wijmo.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />

    <!--Wijmo Widgets CSS-->
    <link href="http://cdn.wijmo.com/jquery.wijmo-pro.all.3.20183.140.min.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />

    <!--RequireJs-->
    <script type="text/javascript" src="http://cdn.wijmo.com/external/require.js"></script>
  3. Add the following markup within the <body> tags to create the widget. The <select> element creates the widget, and we call its id attribute in jQuery to initialize it. This markup also creates options to display in the ComboBox, and sets the label to change its text when a value from the ComboBox is selected.

    Drop down and copy markup to paste inside the body tags

    Markup
    Copy Code
    <p><label id="output">Where do you live?</label></p>
    <div>
        <select id="states" onchange="$('#output').html('I live in ' + this.value + '!')">
            <option value="AL">Alabama</option>
            <option value="AK">Alaska</option>
            <option value="AZ">Arizona</option>
            <option value="AR">Arkansas</option>
            <option value="CA">California</option>
            <option value="CO">Colorado</option>
            <option value="CT">Connecticut</option>
            <option value="DE">Delaware</option>
            <option value="FL">Florida</option>
            <option value="GA">Georgia</option>
            <option value="HI">Hawaii</option>

            <option value="MO">Missouri</option>
            <option value="MT">Montana</option>

            <option value="NH">New Hampshire</option>
            <option value="NJ">New Jersey</option>
            <option value="NM">New Mexico</option>
            <option value="NY">New York</option>
            <option value="NC">North Carolina</option>
            <option value="ND">North Dakota</option>
            <option value="OH">Ohio</option>
            <option value="OK">Oklahoma</option>
            <option value="OR">Oregon</option>
            <option value="PA" selected="selected">Pennsylvania</option>
            <option value="RI">Rhode Island</option>
            <option value="SC">South Carolina</option>
            <option value="SD">South Dakota</option>
            <option value="TN">Tennessee</option>
            <option value="TX">Texas</option>
            <option value="UT">Utah</option>
            <option value="VT">Vermont</option>
            <option value="VA">Virginia</option>
            <option value="WA">Washington</option>
            <option value="WV">West Virginia</option>
            <option value="WI">Wisconsin</option>
            <option value="WY">Wyoming</option>
        </select>
    </div>
  4. Within the <head> tags, below the references, add the following script to initialize the widget and set the size of the combobox and the animation used when it opens.

    Drop down and copy script to paste inside the head tags

    Script
    Copy Code
    <script type="text/javascript">
        requirejs.config({
            baseUrl: "http://cdn.wijmo.com/amd-js/3.20161.90",
                paths: {
                    "jquery": "jquery-1.11.1.min",
                    "jquery-ui": "jquery-ui-1.11.0.custom.min",
                    "jquery.ui": "jquery-ui",
                    "jquery.mousewheel": "jquery.mousewheel.min",
                    "globalize": "globalize.min"
                }
        });
    </script>

    <script id="scriptInit" type="text/javascript">
        require(["wijmo.wijcombobox"], function () {
            $(document).ready(function () {
                $("#states").wijcombobox({
                    dropdownHeight: 150,
                    dropdownWidth: 200,
                    showingAnimation: { effect: "blind" },
                    hidingAnimation: { effect: "blind" }
                });
            });
        });
    </script>
  5. Save your HTML file and open it in a browser. The widget appears like the following live widget. Drop down the combobox to see the animation, and select a value to see the label change.
