Loading an Excel-Formatted File

Overview

Excel-formatted files are files you have created in Microsoft® Excel, or another spreadsheet application, and exported to the Excel file format (usually .XLS or .WBK). Spread can load spreadsheets created as Excel 97, Excel 2000, and Excel 2002 spreadsheets (BIFF8 format). Spread does not support all the features offered in these Excel files. There are additional methods for opening Excel 2007 (xlsx) files.

Caution: Loading an Excel file into the control deletes the data currently in the control. The loaded file overwrites existing data. Also, if your sheet had more columns and rows than the loaded sheet, those columns and rows are removed. For example, if your sheet had 100 columns and rows of data, and the loaded sheet has 50 columns and rows of data, once the new sheet is loaded, the control only has 50 columns and rows.

For information about the manner in which Spread deals with importing Excel-formatted files, including nonsupported features, see Excel File Import and Export Reference. Note that you cannot import a password-protected Excel-formatted file.
