You can use the grid's InsertMode property to toggle between insert and overstrike modes within the built-in text editor. This property is always available, regardless of the settings of the EditDropDown and MarqueeStyle properties.
By default, InsertMode is True, and each character entered by the user is inserted at the current caret position. If you set InsertMode to False, the editor operates in overstrike mode, and each character entered by the user replaces the character immediately after the caret.
At run time, the user can press the Ins key to toggle the insertion mode.
