ComponentOne True DataControl 8.0
Retrieving Fields from the Data Source at Design Time

Once you have specified the data source properties at design time, you can retrieve fields from the data source with the Retrieve Fields button on the Fields property page, or by selecting Retrieve Fields from the TData control's context menu.

SourceRecordset fields appear on the Fields property page. Each field’s Name and DataSourceField property is set to the field’s name as it appears in the SourceRecordset property.

Retrieved fields constitute the starting point for building the True DataControl Fields collection (the Fields property is used to obtain this collection). You can add calculated fields, delete some of the retrieved fields, and add some new data fields, if necessary. Order of the fields can be changed by drag-and-drop in the Fields page. A field’s Name can be changed to whatever string you need; it will represent the field’s name in the True DataControl Recordset. You can also change a field’s DataSourceName, thus attaching the field to a certain SourceRecordset field. Bear in mind that if DataSourceName does not correspond to any field in SourceRecordset, True DataControl will ignore the field.
