ComponentOne Query 8.0
Tutorials

Eight tutorials are presented here to help you master ComponentOne Query. The tutorials assume that you are familiar with programming in Visual Basic and have a general knowledge of databases and how to use ADO/OLE DB data sources with bound controls. The tutorials provide step-by-step instructions and require no prior knowledge of ComponentOne Query. By following these instructions, you will be able to create projects demonstrating a variety of ComponentOne Query features. You will also get a good sense of what ComponentOne Query can do and how to do it.

We encourage you to run the tutorial projects in Visual Basic and experiment with your own modifications. This is the best and quickest way to learn how to realize the full potential of ComponentOne Query.

The tutorials use the standard simple Access database NWIND.MDB included in Microsoft Visual Basic. The database is not provided with ComponentOne Query, you need to have it already installed on your computer. The tutorials assume this database is located in:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio\VB98\Nwind.mdb

If your database is located in a different directory, you can manually modify the tutorial files, or copy the database file to the required directory.

We also assume that three ActiveX controls are included in all projects: ComponentOne Query Control 8.0 (C1Query, C1QueryFrame), Microsoft DataGrid Control 6.0 (OLEDB) (DataGrid), and Microsoft ADO Data Control 6.0. To add a control to your project you must select Components from the Project menu to display the list of available components. Check the box representing the desired control, then press the OK button. The control icons are added to the Visual Basic Toolbox.
