Exporting to an Excel-Formatted File

Overview

You can export a book or a sheet to the Microsoft Excel 97, Excel 2000, and Excel 2002 format (BIFF8). There are additional methods to save to Excel 2007 (xlsx) files. Data and property settings are translated into Excel format as explained in Excel File Import and Export Reference.

By default, the file created by exporting to an Excel-formatted file has the extension .XLS; however, you can use any extension when you export from the fpSpread control or the Spread Designer.

Tip: Because a limited number of Spread features are not converted to Excel format, you might want to save to a Spread file (.SS8) file in addition to exporting it to Excel. Saving the file to a Spread file allows you to open the Spread (.SS8) file for future modifications while maintaining Spread-specific features.

Notes:

If your control contains numeric data and you are planning to export to Excel, for best results place any numeric data in numeric cells in Spread.
The Spread version 8 ActiveX controls are safe for scripting. If you are using the Spread ActiveX control in a container that supports IObjectSafety such as Internet Explorer 4, you cannot export or save files.
